What is VoIP?
VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, literally means allowing your telephone system to run over a secure internet connection. It is the ability to combine your entire telephone and internet (data) system into one network.
This allows for faster and more reliable internet connections, with best in class telephone technology, so that your entire business can have both its telephony and data run through the same network. This allows you to consolidate your costs, increase your efficiency and speed, and is a tremendous leap from old telephony solutions.
In addition, VoIP allows for many more features with no added cost. This allows you to incorporate the capabilities that are on par with the top of the line phone systems, without having to pay for them. Some of the features are:
- Soft Phones (Ability to have a phone on a desktop computer)
- Voice-mails sent directly to your email (Unified Messaging)
- Location independent businesses
- IVR, the ability to have an auto attendant
- "Follow-Me" Calling
We explain more about these features, under our Why VoIP tab, which you can access by clicking here. In essence, Voice over IP is what telephone companies and businesses are converting to. This change is occurring because this technology gives you more flexibility and features, while lowering your costs per call.
